In vitro cultivation of fruit trees for the rapid propagation of virus-free scion woods,
for the virus elimination of cultivars and for the breeding of new cultivars.
Duration: 1987-1990, 1991-1993, 1993-1997Supported by: BMLFW and BMWF, C&A
Main topics of this programme are the elaboration of protocols for:
- a) in vitro-culture (establishment, multiplication and rooting phase) and virus elimination (in-vitro-thermotherapy, meristem culture) of old local as well as agronomically interesting fruit trees.
- b) breeding of fruit trees, such as for the regeneration of plants from protoplasts, different complex explants and for somatic embryogenesis.
- c) physiological studies in vitro in view of a conservation of valuable genetic resources in an in vitro genebank. With this studies we are also present in the european COST Action 87 "In vitro culture for the purification and propagation of plants" and COST 822 "Development of integrated systems for large scale propagation of elite plants using in vitro techniques" Information about the genebank storage is communicated to and spread by IBPGR.
