The infection with CMLV causes on susceptible hosts irregular development of leaves
which show chlorotic mottle and distortion. Reduction of leaf size and tattering
vary with the host species and the virus isolate. The terminal growth is
reduced, leading to a rosetted appearance of the tree. Ripening is delayed and
the fruits, although regular in shape, remain small and lack flavour. Usually no
dieback occures.
It seems that the virus is rather sensitive to high temperatures, as warm
weather can mask the symptoms and gain a certain recovery of the trees.
