Cherry rusty mottle covers numerous disorders with some common symptoms reported
throughout Europe. On susceptible plants leaves turn bright yellow to red in late
spring. Brown spots with dark brown or black halos develop and give the
foliage a rusty appearance. Leaves drop before harvest, the fruits are small
with poor taste and ripen delayed. After cold springs symptoms are more severe.
As the disease is not epidemic, the frequency decreases rapily with the use
of virus free planting material. Other Prunus species than cherries seem to be
resistant to CRMV.
